Ring cycle: The ADAC 1000KM-rennen Nürburgring was held in May 1970, on the traditional Northern Loop (Nordschleife) of the Nürburgring, forever associated with the Grosser Preis von Deutschland. Although it turned out to be Porsche's day when a Typ 908/03 took a first before the home crowd, the Englishman Mike Parkes, in a Ferrari 512S, produced in just three months by a team headed by Mauro Forghieri, finished fourth. Parkes was an ex-Ferrari development engineer and reserve driver, and by any objective standards of the day an experienced endurance race specialist.
