Switzerland is much more than the land of chocolate, watch-making and numbered accounts and the Swiss gave special prominence to the style of representation known as display art. A generation of gifted artists and illustrators found complete expression in the long, serrated chain of the Alps, a dominant characteristic of a landscape sculpted by the elements, and laid the foundations for the school of Alpine poster design.
