Winning streak: Froilan Gonzales shared the laurels in Scuderia Ferrari's 375 Plus with diminutive Maurice Trintignant, most skilled of second-generation French pilotes. Gonzales, second only to his Argentine compatriot Juan Manuel Fangio, was known as 'Pepe', or (reflecting his burly stature) the gently comical 'Pampas Bull'. Maranello's formative decade was marked by an impressively successful competition record, including Gonzales' win in the 1951 British Grand Prix and a series of victories in classic endurance races. Ferrari scooped the Sports Car Championship in the 1954 season.
