Long distance call: A Le-Mans style start was used for the 12 Hours event, held at Sebring Raceway, Florida, in 1963. The contest, first staged in 1952 and run over unused runways at Sebring Regional Airport, was marked by long straights, plenty of turns, high-speed corners and rough road surfaces. Works driver John Surtees, partnered by Ludovico Scarfiotti, an amateur driver of considerable attainment and grandson of Fiat's first president, was in winning form in a 250P entered by SEFAC Ferrari. The all-conquering Maranello cars took second and third, piloted by Mairesse, Vaccarella and Bandini, and Hill and Rodriguez, respectively.
