Speed matters: Decorative and dramatic depiction of a bob-sledding team snaking down an ice run at full speed in Davos. One of the biggest names in the Alps, the mountain valley of Davos was formerly a sought-after 19th century health resort (Robert Louis Stevenson, Conan Doyle and Thomas Mann all wintered in the spa). In the century that followed, Davos was developed as a full-blown winter sports destination, renowned for excellent snow cover and attracting world-class skiers and skaters. Annual bobsleigh races, drawing crowds of competitors and spectators, have few superiors.
