The skis the limit: Eye-catching imagery, emblematic of the Art Deco period, features both imaginative design and exotic location. Zurich-born Walter Herdeg, acclaimed as 'a kind of graphic conscience of an age', put the famed mountain resort on the map. Herdeg's lasting trademark motif in the form of a brightly shining sun is iconographic. 'I had to create' said the widely celebrated designer, 'an atmosphere that gives one the desire to breathe fresh air, soak up sun and ski.' Skiing was a pivotal influence on modern luxury travel, occupying a place apart in its history.
